Daddy lost his job today. After four years with the company and only three months in this dream-job position, he was let go. He is our main source of income plus our insurance was under this job. Hannah’s livelihood and survival to this point has relied exclusively on the generosity of our insurance — the multiple private therapies, orthotics, her gait trainer (which we don’t have yet), procedures, doctors, etc.
We are devastated. Our income is now based solely on my menial part-time job, which in no way could support our family, not even close. He is going to apply for unemployment tomorrow, but everyone knows that won’t even come near to what he was making. Hopefully Hannah’s medicaid will come in within the next month or so, but still —-
I don’t know what we are going to do.
So very upset for you right now…honestly, how could they justify this? I’m so sorry and I will pray for you.
I am so very sorry to hear that new’s. Maybe with no insurance now you will get the medicaid faster. What about state insurance for low income? Can you continue the insurance for Hannah thru COBRA? I am praying for you on this end. God has opened another door for you.

I’m so sorry to hear this, Carrie but have to admit I am so relieved that it is not bad news about Hannah – my heart just dropped at the thought. It’s still a very difficult situation to lose health coverage and income when your family depends on it so heavily. I hope another door opens for Hannah’s Daddy very soon.

Oh Carrie, I cannot even believe it. I’m so so sorry. This is just NOT what you guys needed. I’m going to be sending you tons of prayers that he finds something soon. Maybe it’ll be something even better, better insurance etc……… you just NEVER know what doors can be opened out of REALLY crappy circumstances. I’m so sorry girl. Hang in there.

A slap in the face to say the least. I know a COBRA insurance person if you need some help, but he should qualify for at least a year, with reduced payments possibly. Lots of employers are waiting until after the Obama legislation expires to let employees go so they don’t have to cover a percentage of their COBRA. Let me look around and I’ll get back to you.

This is my site, because I’ve been researching all of this COBRA stuff, etc., for a good friend. http://healthcoveragenow.blogspot.com/2010/02/unemployed-now-what-do-i-do.html Looks like you are definitely covered for reduced COBRA because Obama extended the cut-off through the end of February for people that are let go from their job.

UGH. I am so so sorry. There’s nothing I can say to ‘make it better’. I only hope that this is such a short reprieve before the dream job he didn’t realize was his comes to his feet…an opportunity for your family some how. And when that day comes, soon, I hope the switch in insurance doesn’t jeopardize anything.

Oh Carrie, my heart goes out to you. We were in the same situation from January to July of last year and I know what it feels like-especially where our special needs kiddos are concerned. Although I know that what I am going to say doesn’t matter in the here and now, I want to tell you that for us, better things came from where my husband ended up going- better things for us and most importantly for brooklyn. I am here for you, even miles away. Hannah will be taken care of, someway and somehow- I am absolutely sure of that! Love and hugs to you all.
