Today was a good day. I was afraid to even say those words until the sun set over here.
We finally got our new home inspected after a week or so of waiting for the bank (seller) to get the utilities turned back on. When we made the offer on the house, we knew that the house had a lot of work that needed to be done — new carpets, paint, overgrown landscaping, lots of spackling, missing fixtures, etc. Mostly superficial, but definitely needed to be worked on in order to make this house a home.
The inspector did a thorough job and only found a few issues that needed attention. Nothing that a good handyman, electrician, and a couple of days couldn’t fix! He actually said the house was in much better condition than he is used to seeing with a foreclosure.
But what made it even better was when Daddy arrived for the inspection, the entire backyard landscaping was cleaned and pruned! All of those overgrown plants, branches, and weeds (and we are talking a few feet high with a few of them) were all cleaned up. Daddy said the backyard looked even better! Best of all, all of the electrical to the hot tub area (no hot tub there, just the stone around where it once was) was in working order.
When they were in the house, someone else showed up. Apparently the bank is having the entire interior house painted! Painted off white, but painted none the less as well as having all the spackling done and holes repaired. The final clincher? The painter mentioned that he had to be done by a certain time on Saturday because the carpet steam cleaners were coming! What?!
So not only did the bank pay for cleaning and pruning the backyard, but they are fixing the holes in the wall and painting the entire interior of the house AND they are going to steam clean the carpets! Our realtor says that this is VERY unusual after a sale, but the only thing we can come up with is that all of this was ordered before we made an offer on the house in preparation for a sale and they just never cancelled it.
We may still need to get new carpet, especially because of Ethan’s room (which was a cat room), but there is a chance that it may be able to be cleaned enough that we may not. Also, have clean and spackled walls will make painting the interior the colors we want MUCH easier! The kids are already drooling to pick out colors for their rooms.
I’m even more excited to move in now. As soon as we get close, we need to get a quote on how much it would be to break down the wall in between the master bedroom and what would be Hannah’s room, but the inspector said it is a superficial wall so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Good news on this front! We finally caught a break 🙂
